Progress check. This is what I’m working with so far. The back features a wraparound with the stars motif and I’ve got some ideas for the inside that I just need to work out the logistics of for the inside. I’m pretty sure that I’m going to be making the package from scratch.
I truly have no idea what I’m doing with this and I’m sure I’m biting off more than I can chew. I mean, when’s the last time I bought a CD? Like November of 2004 (Stevie Wonder’s The Definitive Collection). But I’m determined to score an A on this assignment because I REALLY need it. Moreover, how crappy am I gonna feel if I get a lousy grade on an assignment that also happens to be an extension of my identity; linking my musicianship to my illustration? Exactly.

Today is gonna be so hard...
… but so very worth it. It’s my official debut to the Toronto stage making this the third country I’ve been honoured the opportunity to play an official gig in (I do my thing wherever I go). I’ve torn up the stage a couple times in the last year plus that I’ve been here but this is the first me-centric thing and I’m excited.
But I’ve got a lot of work to do. Courtesy of the most disorganised promoter I’ve ever worked with, I’ve got to run around ALL DAY tomorrow trying to score some equipment and I’ve got to carry my guitar in the event that he DOES get me an amp (seriously, I’m playing at a lounge with NO amps). I’ve got waaay too much to do tomorrow and I’m not looking forward to it.
Still, being back on stage again will be so worth it. So here’s the rundown of what my set tomorrow will consist of:
- Some jams from invinciblemusic that you know and love
- A brand new track that I’m debuting from The Phoebe EP
- Me, potentially, on tambourine AND guitar duty (if Mr. Man gets me an amp)
- The mighty Jason Florentino on lead guitar (so worth it)
- My sweet outfit that Alex has been working on for me
- Video duty by the fantastic Meghan!
- Photo duty by Aanchal as well as, from what I gather, Arslan AND Amanda
Should be fun times. Wish me luck!

The Phoebe EP
I guess this is as official an announcement as ever. I’m back in the lab again, cranking out new tunes. And for serious, I’m kicking straight fire of a totally different nature, of course. I’ve kinda got two things in the works right now; the more immediate of which is called The Phoebe EP. The name will make more sense once I drop more details on the second thing in future.
I’ve been working with another beatmaker, Silexz, on some totally new material. I’ve been super busy with school lately so he’s been doing much of the heavy lifting on the beats so you can expect to hear me on a newer sound than you’re used to. In literally one week, we’ve, collectively, managed to knock out the basics of 4 songs. We started work on the 5th this evening but thanks to a Windows XP crash, we totally lost it (no worries though).
It really feels good to be able to take a break from banging out beats on the quick. After invinciblemusic, I’m pretty spent and tired of my own beats. In 9 months up until release, I cranked out 22 beats; 10 of which went on to become complete and released songs (for myself and others); 3 of which I wrote and recorded in a week. It’s not that I don’t love what I do anymore but I need to take a break to reinspire and recharge. I mean, I know everything that’s in my own head and regardless of whether or not anyone’s heard it before (which I promise you haven’t), I’ve heard it all before and it’s getting harder and harder to blow my own mind every time. Also, it doesn’t hurt that Sile’s got a studio setup that rivals mine :)
Now, I’ll still have some input on these beats and, obviously, I’m writing and rapping all my own lyrics so fret not. The Phoebe EP promises more introspective, personal jams but they’ll still carry the trademark World Famous Paul-C vibe. Release date is still TBA but it should be out before the end of 2009!
P.S. If anyone’s planning on coming out to my gig on the 27th, I might debut some new material :D

One Week: Eighty Downloads
Wow guys. One week ago, I released my mixtape. Eighty downloads? Thank you SO much! I really wasn’t expecting more than about 30 or so, EVER (around the neighbourhood of the unvincibeats EP or the Justice x MSTRKRFT mashup). Seriously, this is 4/5 of the total I hoped to get out there (100, if you suck at math like me). I truly appreciate it and hope you continue to support me (or at least download with blind curiosity)!
I should be taking a hiatus now, for school’s sake, but I’ve already started working on my next project (which I’ll post details about later) and I even have a gig lined up for the 27th of October! If you’re going to be in Toronto around that time, swing by Rancho Relaxo for Toonie Tuesday. $2 cover, $4 beers. Win?
